Maria Kavallaris

Council Member at QIMR Berghofer

Professor Kavallaris is an internationally recognised scientific leader in cancer biology and therapeutics. She is the Founding Director of the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine at the UNSW and Head of the Translational Cancer Nanomedicine Theme at the Children’s Cancer Institute.

Professor Kavallaris is Chair of the Australian Institute for Policy and Science, and a Life Member and past-President of the Australian Society for Medical Research. She has contributed on numerous government funding panels including NHMRC Research committee and the Medical Research Future Fund Stem Cell Therapies Advisory Committee, and serves on the NHMRC Women in Health Sciences Committee.

She has received numerous awards, including the highly prestigious Lemberg Medal and two Australian Museum Eureka Prizes. In 2019, she was appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for her significant service to medicine and medical research in the field of childhood and adult cancers.
