Paulo Martins is a Research Officer at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, focusing on novel immunotherapies for cancer treatment, particularly in the area of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, and is a co-inventor of the CMV-EphA3 CAR T cell immunotherapy CYT-AT1. Previously, Paulo served as a Research Scientist in the Bone Marrow Transplantation Lab, applying a pre-clinical cytomegalovirus reactivation model to understand immunological effects post-transplantation. Prior experience includes working as a Scientist at ECBio, S.A., where efforts concentrated on the use of mesenchymal stem cells for cell therapy and GMP manufacturing. Paulo holds a Ph.D. in Viral Reactivation after Bone Marrow Transplantation from The University of Queensland, a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a Licentiate degree in Biochemistry from Universidade do Algarve.
