David Baker has extensive work experience in the field of genomics and sequencing. David is currently the Head of Sequencing at Quadram Institute, a position they have held since June 2019. Prior to that, they worked as a Microbiology Sequencing Specialist at the same company from July 2018 to June 2019.
Before joining Quadram Institute, David worked as an NGS Project Leader at Food Forensics Ltd from September 2017 to June 2018. David also served as the Genomics Pipelines Team Leader at Earlham Institute from January 2014 to September 2017.
David's earlier experience includes working at The Genome Analysis Centre as a Sequencing Operations Research Assistant from September 2009 to January 2014. David operated various sequencing platforms such as Illumina, Roche 454, Pacbio, Ion Proton, and Argus.
Prior to that, they held various managerial roles at John Innes Centre, including DNA Services Manager, Mutation Detection & Genotyping Manager, DNA Sequencing Manager & TILLING Platform Technology Leader, and Genome Laboratory DNA Sequencing Manager. David worked at John Innes Centre from July 2002 to September 2009.
David's career in genomics and sequencing began at The Sainsbury Laboratory, where they worked as a Sequencing and Genotyping Technician from April 1999 to January 2002, and as a DNA Sequencing Technician from December 1995 to April 1999.
David Baker started their education at Braunton School and Community College from 1983 to 1988, where they obtained their GCSEs. David then attended North Devon College from 1988 to 1991, earning a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Engineering. Afterward, they pursued higher education at Oxford Brookes University from 1991 to 1994 and received a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Engineering.
