Jan Aarts is a Professor of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics at Leiden University, where they have been teaching since 2003. They served as the Scientific Director at the Leiden Institute of Physics from 2018 to 2024 and currently direct the Quantum Hub Leiden. Additionally, Aarts leads the Human Capital initiative at Quantum Delta NL, a role they began in 2025. They earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Amsterdam in 1984.
