Ryan Lu

Ryan Lu has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a Machine Learning/Vision Engineer at QuantumScape. In this position, they utilize machine learning and computer vision to accelerate solid-state battery research, development, and production efforts. This involves tasks such as image processing/analysis and defect detection using traditional computer vision techniques and deep learning with Tensorflow/Keras.

Prior to joining QuantumScape, Ryan worked as a Data Science Intern at Ntropy in 2020. Here, they gained valuable experience in data science during their internship.

In 2016, Ryan began their role as a Materials Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. During their time there, they contributed to successful research efforts, resulting in two patents, three first-author publications, and two second-author publications. Ryan'sresearch spanned various areas, including ceramic composites, ceramic-metal infiltration composites, electrical impedance spectroscopy of hydrates, and ceramics additive manufacturing.

Before their position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Ryan held internships at Glidewell Dental as a Polymer R&D Intern in 2016, at Crista Chemical LLC as an Electrochemistry QC Intern from 2014 to 2015, and at Berkeley Lab as a Research (S.U.L.I.) Intern in 2014.

Ryan Lu completed their education in a chronological order. From 2019 to 2020, they attended The Johns Hopkins University and earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science. Prior to that, from 2015 to 2016, they studied at Boston University and obtained a Master of Engineering degree in Materials Science and Engineering. Ryan'sundergraduate education was completed at UC San Diego from 2010 to 2015, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. In addition to their formal education, they obtained a TensorFlow Developer Certificate in November 2020 from the TensorFlow Certificate Program (Google).
