Teri Shearer

Provost & Vice-Principal Academic at Queen's University

Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Dr. Teri Shearer is the university's chief academic, budget, and operating officer.

In these roles, Dr. Shearer is responsible for the development of the university’s budget and has oversight of academic affairs at Queen’s. Dr. Shearer works closely with the university’s senior leadership team to ensure operational planning is fully integrated across the university, aligns with the university’s strategic vision, and is supported by an appropriate allocation of resources.

Dr. Shearer joined Queen’s University in 1996 upon completion of her PhD at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on the social and behavioural consequences of accounting practices, and her papers have appeared in some of the top journals in this field. Prior to her appointment as Provost in July 2022, Dr. Shearer served as Deputy Provost, between January 2016 and July 2022. During that time, Dr. Shearer played a leadership role in overseeing academic appointments, chairing the Senate Committee on Academic Development, overseeing the university’s response to the Principal’s Implementation Committee on Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (PICRDI) report, and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives on campus.

Prior to her role has Deputy Provost, Dr. Shearer served as Associate Dean of Faculty and Associate Professor at Queen’s Smith School of Business.
