Jim Keeler began their work experience as an Intern at Paychex in 2002 and later worked as an Intern and Co-Op for the company. During their time at Paychex, they were involved in various projects, including improving support team research efficiency and migrating legacy C applications to a 64-bit architecture.

In 2004, Keeler started working at SUNY Fredonia as a Technical Assistant, where they developed a PHP-based system to eliminate a paper-based system for computer hardware inventory and created a custom utility to check URLs for dead links. Jim also performed repairs, updates, cleaning, and security maintenance for library-owned machines.

Keeler then joined Windstream Communications in 2011 as a Software Engineer III, where they worked until 2013. Jim later joined Calero Software as a Senior Software Engineer from 2013 to 2019.
