Justin Norman

Photonic Materials Engineer at Quintessent

Justin Norman has a background in photonic materials engineering. Justin started their professional career in 2020 as a Photonic Materials Engineer at Quintessent Inc. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Santa Barbara from 2013-2020, where they were also a National Science Foundation Fellow with advisors John Bowers and Arthur Gossard. Justin specialized in using molecular beam epitaxy to grow III-V materials for optoelectronics and quantum electrodynamics experiments, with a focus on high performance InAs quantum dot based devices and heteroepitaxy of III-Vs on Si. Justin also had experience with material growth and characterization and device fabrication including heterogeneous integration processes for III-Vs on Si. Before their time at UC Santa Barbara, they were an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Arkansas from 2010-2011 and an REU Intern at Johns Hopkins University in 2011.

Justin Norman obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 2013, as well as a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the same university. Justin then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electronic & Photonic Materials from UC Santa Barbara in 2018.
