Asociación Quisca was founded in 2009 by filmmakers and artists in Cusco, Peru to create films, public art and other media to support social change. We prioritize working with Indigenous and farming communities who are defending their environment and culture.

We provide our partners with media advocacy, film training and campaign support to bring their forgotten stories to the outside world. And we work with educators and changemakers around the globe on public awareness campaigns.

Quisca has produced two award-winning feature documentaries, “Karuara, People of the River” and “The Devil Operation”, as well as multiple short films, animations, music videos, an illustrated book of Indigenous stories and public art installations.

Our films have been screened at more than 90 international festivals including A-list events like Hot Docs, IDFA and the Annecy Animation festival. Broadcast credits include the Sundance Channel, Al Jazeera, Outside TV, Russia Today and the Knowledge Network (BC, Canada).

“Karuara, People of the River,” our most recent work, was released in 2024 and has won 12 awards including the Audience Choice award and Best Peruvian film at the Lima-PUCP festival, Peru’s top film event; the WACC-SIGNIS Human Rights Award and the UNESCO Dolomites award at the Bolzano film festival. This participatory film was produced in collaboration with Radio Ucamara, an Indigenous media outlet in Peru's Amazon and a federation of Kukama-Kukamiria women. The film's coproducer and protagonist, Mari Luz Canaquiri, won the Goldman Award this year, the highest honor for an environmental defender.

Quisca is a registered non-profit association in Peru. We operate on a system of self-financing, outside grants and the Inca trueque system – reciprocal help within Peru's film and arts community. All profits from sales of our films and other products are invested into our ongoing projects.
