Aakash Murugan has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Aakash started in 2015 with a research internship at UMass Dartmouth, where they worked on software development for a reliability web app. In 2016, they had a research internship at the Computer Vision Lab at IIT Madras, focusing on developing a combined formulation for Semantic 3D reconstruction and segmentation using deep nets.
In 2017, Aakash had an internship at Ghost Vision Pvt. Ltd., working on sensor fusion and visual odometry for a virtual reality headset. Aakash utilized the SVO visual odometry algorithm and IMU for pose and scale estimation. Also in 2017, they worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at WPI ECE dept, conducting help sessions, evaluating and grading course materials, and guiding students in their lab sessions.
In 2019, Aakash joined Realtime Robotics, Inc., as a Vision Systems Engineer, responsible for developing and implementing vision systems. Aakash also had a brief internship at the same company as a Vision Systems Engineer Intern in 2019.
In 2021, Aakash joined Novanta Inc. as an Embedded Computer Vision / Machine Learning Engineer and worked on computer vision and machine learning projects. Currently, they are working at Qvantel as a Senior Software Developer, starting in 2022.
Aakash Murugan earned a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneshwar, from 2012 to 2016. Aakash then pursued a Master's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 2017 to 2019.
