Its wide range of graduate and scholarly programs and commitment to multidisciplinary and international perspectives makes it one of the world’s leading institute’s for studying human–nature intersections.

The RCC is part of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU). It was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of LMU and the Deutsches Museum and has received core funding as part of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg funding initiative of the German Ministry of Research and Education.
