Matthew Pennington has extensive experience in journalism, particularly focused on Asia and issues related to authoritarian regimes. Currently serving as Acting Executive Editor at Radio Free Asia since December 2018, Matthew oversees editorial operations and supports various language services that cater to audiences in Asia lacking a free press. Prior to this role, Matthew held positions such as Senior Managing Editor and Managing Editor for Southeast Asia at Radio Free Asia. Matthew's previous experience at the Associated Press includes roles as a Reporter on Asia-US affairs, Acting National Security Editor, and Bureau Chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan, among others. Matthew began a career in journalism with AFP and worked for the UN Development Programme as an Information Officer. Matthew holds a Master of Arts in Political Philosophy from the University of York and a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient History/Archaeology from the University of Bristol.
