Bob's interest in radios and electronics dates back to the late 1960's when his older brother brought home some Heathkits to assemble for a local technical school. Bob bought his first scanner, a 16-channel Uniden BC100XL, in 1985. His first amateur radio transceiver was a Yaesu FT-23R that he purchased soon after becoming a licensed amateur radio operator in 1991. He has since owned more scanners, amateur radios, and commercial radios than he cares to count.
Bob is an active amateur radio operator and severe weather spotter. He is also trustee for an amateur radio repeater in Danville, Indiana. His primary scanning interests are public safety and railroads. Bob has a long history in the online radio community going back to CompuServe's HAMNET forum. In addition to his radio hobbies, Bob is a railfan, an official with the Sports Car Club of America, webmaster for a small handful of web sites, and he looks after a friend's Ford Model A.
