Michael Spahr has an extensive background in research and development within the graphite and carbon industries. Michael started their career in 1997 as Project Leader for Lithium Batteries at TIMCAL G&T. Michael then moved to TIMCAL Group, where they held various roles, including Head of R&D for Electrochemical Applications and Product Manager for Lithium-ion Batteries. In 2006, they joined TIMCAL Graphite & Carbon as R&D Manager for Graphite and later became the Senior Vice President of Research & Development. In 2014, they transitioned to IMERYS Graphite & Carbon as Director of Research and Development and Technology Cluster Director, before assuming their current role as Vice President of Innovations Carbon Distillation & Advanced Materials at Rain Carbon Inc in 2019.
Michael Spahr started their education in 1985 at the University of Stuttgart, where they earned a Diplom in Chemistry in 1992. Michael then pursued a Master of Science in Organic Natural Product Synthesis at the University of Cincinnati from 1988-1989. Following this, they continued their studies in Solid State Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research Stuttgart from 1992-1993. Finally, they obtained a Dr. sc. nat. in Solid State Chemistry and Electrochemistry, with a focus on Lithium-Ion Batteries, from ETH Zürich from 1993-1997.
