In this role, they worked with all departments, government-owned corporations and statutory authorities to guide better infrastructure decision-making. The staff and functions of Building Queensland were integrated into the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning in June 2021.

In June 2018, Murdoch was appointed as a non-executive director of KGL Resources Ltd. In this role, they chaired the Audit and Risk Committee and was a member of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee. KGL Resources Limited is a listed Australian mineral exploration company focused on increasing the current high grade Resource at the Jervois Copper Project in the Northern Territory and establishing a world class, low cost copper mine.

Murdoch has also held positions at NRW Holdings and The Pyjama Foundation.

Fiona Murdoch has completed a Company Directors Course through the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Master of Business Administration through Queensland University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours also through Queensland University of Technology. Fiona has also attended Brisbane Girls Grammar School.
