Akshata Varun

Scientific Curator, Gene Variant curation specialist at Rancho BioSciences

Akshata Varun has a strong background in biotechnology and bioinformatics. Beginning in 2010, they worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute for Fundamental Research. During their time there, they gained expertise in primer designing and cloning to produce recombinant DNA using different restriction enzymes.

In 2012, Akshata joined Molecular Connections as a Scientific Analyst. Akshata worked on the GeneGo project for Thomson Reuters, where they focused on annotation and analysis of biomedical information such as biomarkers, SNP, GWAS, and detection of bio-markers and bio-signatures using various genomic data for specific diseases. Akshata worked on this project until 2014.

In 2015, Akshata joined Rancho BioSciences as a Scientific Curator and Gene Variant curation specialist. Akshata'sresponsibilities included annotating data, analyzing molecular characteristics of diseases and healthy traits, and investigating genetic variations such as SNP, gene deletion, insertions, and chromosomal aberrations. As of now, they are still with Rancho BioSciences.

Akshata Varun obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College from 2004 to 2007. Akshata then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medical Biochemistry from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, completing their studies from 2007 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Akshata Varun also obtained a certification in German A1 from the Goethe-institut in June 2019. Akshata also holds a certification in Business Management from Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification are not provided.
