Deral Heiland

Deral Heiland is a seasoned security professional with extensive experience in cybersecurity and risk management. Currently serving as Principal Security Researcher for Rapid7 since December 2013, Deral leads focused research projects within the Office of the CTO while also managing security assessments and consulting services for corporations and government agencies. Previous roles include Principal Consultant for Rapid7 Global Services, where Deral mentored staff and managed a pentesting team, and Senior Security Consultant, alongside a tenure at CDW as Senior Security Engineer/Consultant. Deral's prior experience includes leadership positions at the Ohio Information Security Forum and ACS, INC., as well as roles in network security and systems administration at MeadWestvaco and Evening Post Publishing Co. Deral's foundational experience stems from service in the U.S. Submarine Force. Educational background includes coursework at Sinclair Community College and Trident Technical College.
