Paul Deardorff

Paul Deardorff has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Paul is currently working as a Lead Software Engineer at Rapid7 since October 2022. Prior to this role, they held the position of Senior Software Engineer at the same company starting from January 2021.

Before joining Rapid7, Paul worked as a Security Researcher at Rapid7 from October 2014 to January 2021, where they were part of the Labs team within the Office of the CTO. Paul contributed to scanning the public internet with Project Sonar to uncover security trends and monitored attacker behaviors with the global honeypot network, Heisenberg.

In 2021, they also became an Investor and Advisor at hobbyDB in November 2021. Additionally, Paul worked at BRIM Anti-Bullying Software as a Technical Advisor from October 2019 onwards. Paul served as the CEO/Owner of the company from January 2017 to October 2019, successfully achieving an exit.

In their earlier career, Paul worked as a Software Developer & Consultant at THEMETRIC, specializing in Ruby on Rails web development, security testing, and application architecture. Paul provided consulting services to small businesses on business strategy, SaaS models, content marketing, and more, leveraging their experience running several successful small businesses of their own.

Furthermore, Paul served as a Software Architect at Validated Learning Co. // Quick Key. During their tenure from September 2013 to January 2017, they built the initial backend MVP for the teacher admin panel and mobile API and scaled up the platform to support enterprise clients and the first 100 schools. Paul also integrated the platform with PowerSchool SIS for syncing students and grades.

Additionally, Paul gained valuable experience through their involvement in the Volunteer Internship Program at the U.S. Department of Justice. Paul was selected from a pool of 300 applicants and worked during the summer and part-time during the school year with the Department of Justice.

Paul Deardorff attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2011 to 2014, majoring in Haas Business Management. Prior to that, they attended Chaminade High School from 2007 to 2011. In addition, they obtained a certification as a Metasploit Pro Certified Specialist from Rapid7 in August 2020.
