Jan Carlo Punongbayan

Jan Carlo Punongbayan, PhD, is an accomplished academic and practitioner in the field of economics, currently serving as an Assistant Professor and Senior Lecturer at the UP School of Economics since July 2013. In addition to teaching courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and Philippine economic history, Jan Carlo holds the position of Director of Graduate Admissions and Fellowships, with a PhD dissertation focused on market design in school choice. As a columnist for Rappler, Jan Carlo discusses Philippine economics and public policy weekly and co-founded Usapang Econ, which produces informative online content for the public. Previous roles include Research Coordinator at the Far Eastern University Public Policy Center, Researcher for the Energy Policy and Development Program, Head Executive Assistant at the National Economic and Development Authority, Research Assistant at The World Bank, and Economist at the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Philippines. Jan Carlo's academic qualifications include a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of the Philippines Diliman, complemented by a BS in Economics from the same institution.
