Dr. Rakesh Goyal, MD, MRCP, has extensive work experience in the field of medicine, particularly in pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplantation. Rakesh is currently serving as the Medical Director at RAPT Therapeutics since April 2020. Prior to this, they worked as a Medical Consultant at Talaris Therapeutics from January 2020 to July 2020.

From 2016 to 2020, Dr. Goyal held the position of Section Chief, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Faculty in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children's Mercy Kansas City. Rakesh also has notable experience at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where they served as the Clinical Director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapies from July 2011 to March 2016. Before that, they worked as an Attending Physician in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the same hospital from July 1998 to June 2011.

Dr. Goyal has a strong academic background and has held various positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Rakesh was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics from July 2006 to March 2016, during which they conducted genome-wide association studies and received grant support from institutions like Clinical and Translational Science Institute, NIH, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Rakesh also served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics from July 1998 to July 2006, conducting research on variation in Ara-C pathway genes and treatment outcomes in acute myeloid leukemia with grant support from the National Cancer Institute, NIH, and Fujisawa.

Starting their career, Dr. Goyal worked as a Research Fellow at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis from July 1994 to June 1998, where they carried out significant research on Ajuba proteins and their role in cell signaling and oncogenesis. Prior to that, they completed their Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at St. Louis Children's Hospital from July 1993 to June 1994. Rakesh also underwent Residency in Pediatrics at The University of Connecticut Health Center from August 1991 to June 1993.

Dr. Rakesh Goyal began their medical career as a Registrar at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where they gained initial clinical experience from an unspecified time frame in 1989 to 1991.

Rakesh Goyal, MD, MRCP completed their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Delhi University in the years 1978 to 1983. Rakesh then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Pediatrics from The University of Connecticut Health Center from 1991 to 1993. In 1992, they obtained their Board Certification in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Dr. Goyal later achieved their Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology in 1997, also from the ABP.

Dr. Goyal completed a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis from 2013 to 2017. Rakesh also holds additional certifications, including a Medical Professional License from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts obtained in December 2015 and a Medical Professional License from the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts obtained in January 2016.

To further their expertise, Dr. Goyal has undertaken various additional courses and programs. In 1990, they became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom. Rakesh completed the Physicians Business and Leadership Certificate Course from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business in April 2002. Rakesh also obtained the "From Benchtop to Bedside: What Every Scientist Needs to Know" certification from the Office of Enterprise Development, Health Sciences, University of Pittsburgh in April 2014. Furthermore, Dr. Goyal successfully completed the Genomic Medicine Master Class from the Center for Genomic Medicine, Children's Mercy Kansas City in November 2016.

In terms of their current certifications, Dr. Goyal holds specialization in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology from the American Board of Pediatrics.
