Anthony Chatwin

Vice President

Anthony Chatwin has extensive experience in environmental conservation and biodiversity, holding various leadership positions over two decades. From 1998 to 2003, Anthony served as Program Director at the Conservation Law Foundation, followed by a role as Program Director for South America at The Nature Conservancy from 2003 to 2008. Anthony then transitioned to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation as Vice President of Science and Evaluation, a role held from April 2008 until April 2021. Anthony became President of the Island Institute from August 2021 to August 2022, and currently holds the positions of Chief Executive Officer at Smart Nature Solutions LLC since April 2021, Vice President at Rare since October 2023, and Lead Author for the Business and Biodiversity Assessment with IPBES since June 2023. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Science in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from Universidade de São Paulo, a Master of Science in Biological Oceanography from the University of Southampton, a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Psychology from the University of Reading, and a Certificate in Investments from The Johns Hopkins University.
