Sabine Topka has extensive experience in the field of genetics research, with a focus on understanding inherited genetic variants and their role in cancer development. Sabine started their career as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Robert and Kate Niehaus Center for Inherited Cancer Genomics from April 2014 to June 2017. In this role, they used next-generation sequencing and CRISPR/Cas9 technology to identify and analyze genetic biomarkers associated with cancer risk.
After their postdoctoral research, Sabine joined the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in July 2017. Here, they concentrated on studying the functional consequences of germline variants in DNA repair genes and their impact on protein function and cellular pathways. Sabine also utilized cellular model systems and xenograft models to investigate drug responses in various mutational backgrounds. Sabine continued their work at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a Senior Research Scientist from April 2021 to January 2022.
Currently, Sabine is the Director of Discovery Biology at Rarebase, a position they assumed in January 2022.
Sabine Topka obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biology, General from The University of Bonn, where they studied from 2008 to 2014. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection (HSP) Group 1: Biomedical Research from the CITI Program in November 2021. Sabine also completed a certification course titled "Schrödinger's Introduction to Molecular Modeling in Drug Discovery" from Schrödinger, although the specific month and year of completion are not provided.
