John McAtominey

Head of CoderDojo at Raspberry Pi Foundation

John McAtominey began their work experience as an Apprentice Joiner at Stuart Clark Joinery in March 2006. John then moved on to work as a Sales Consultant at Carphone Warehouse from March 2007 to June 2008.

In July 2008, John joined The Scouts as a Regional Development Officer, providing field-based support to over 800 federated charities in the region. In June 2014, they were promoted to Regional & Area Manager, leading remotely deployed teams and supporting member charities in strategic planning and growth. In September 2017, they took on the role of National Regional Services Manager, leading a diverse national team focused on growing and supporting charities at various levels within the organization. Throughout their time at The Scouts, John worked closely with partner organizations and agencies, utilizing data and insights to expand the organization's reach and identify new communities for investment. Their work at The Scouts concluded in May 2021.

In May 2021, John joined the Raspberry Pi Foundation as the Head of CoderDojo.

John McAtominey began their education journey at St Leonards RCVA Comprehensive School Durham from 1997 to 2002. John then furthered their studies at St Leonards RCVA VIth Form from 2002 to 2004, focusing on Information Communication Technology, Christian Philosophy, and Ethics. In 2004, they attended Gateshead College and completed a program in Microsoft Office Expert. In 2007, John briefly enrolled at Protocol Skills, where they obtained an NVQ Level 3, Technical Certificate & Advanced Apprenticeship in Customer Service Management. Finally, in 2016, they joined The Open University to pursue a BSc in Computing and IT, which they are currently engaged in.
