Additionally, Lara spent over 15 years at Centrelink as a Senior Customer Service Representative in various roles from March 2001 to June 2016, and began a career in management as a Training Assistant at the Western Australian Institute of Management from March 1999 to March 2001. Education was completed at Bunbury Catholic College from 1992 to 1996.
