From March 2003 to March 2019, Matthias was Vorstand (executive board member) at Fidor Bank AG. Matthias was responsible for the conception, construction, and management of the world's first real community bank. The bank went public in 1999 and Matthias oversaw its internationalization in 2000. In 2000, the bank had 650,000 customers in Europe and 10 million trades. Despite a negative economic climate, Matthias successfully restructured the bank from 2000 to 2002.

From August 1993 to November 2002, Matthias was the CEO of DAB bank AG, the first discount broker in Europe. Matthias successfully took the company public in 1999 and grew it to have 650,000 customers in Europe by 2000.

Matthias Kröner has a Dipl.-Betriebswirt degree in BWL from Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences and a Center for Professional Development degree in Hotel Management and Administration from Cornell University.
