Gilles Backhus has over 10 years of work experience in the fields of AI, Sensor Systems, Realtime Machine Learning, Algorithm Development, Product Development, Human-Machine-Interfaces, Network-on-Chip/FPGA/Protocol Development, and Race Car Electronics. In 2017, they were the VP of AI and Founder at Recogni and Sensor Systems Engineer at Lilium. From 2015 to 2017, they worked at KONUX as AI Lead. In 2014, they were a Master Thesis (RT ML) at Kumu Networks, a Stanford Spin-Off specializing in Full Duplex Wireless Communication. In 2012, they worked at Gauss Instruments as Realtime Machine Learning. From 2013 to 2014, they were Co-Founder, Algorithm Development at SENSACT, where they developed algorithms to identify valuable scenes in videos. In 2013, they were Managing Product Development at Kinexon and Trend Research on "Future Human-Machine-Interfaces in Individual Mobility" at AUDI AG. In 2012, they were Network-on-Chip/FPGA/Protocol Developer at BMW Motorbike Motorsport, where they developed and implemented a digital communication hub for a race bike's new embedded controller. In 2010, they were Race Car Electronics at TUfast e.V. Racing Team, where they configured controllers in C and Simulink and managed digital, analog and bus signals in the race car.
Gilles Backhus received an Honor's Degree in Technology Management from the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) between 2013 and 2014. Gilles then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Elektrotechnik at the Technical University of Munich, which they completed in 2015. In 2011, they took a semester abroad at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore, studying Electrical Engineering.
