Kevin McCarthy PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Kevin is currently working as the Co-founder & CEO of RecommenderX, where they lead a team and promotes their Advise platform, offering predictive analytics and decision support tools to the Consumer Goods industry. Prior to this, from 2016 to 2019, they served as the Co-Founder & CTO at RecommenderX, where they developed enterprise data visualization and decision support systems.
Before joining RecommenderX, Kevin founded and served as the CEO of Aficionado Technologies Ltd. since 2014. Aficionado Technologies provides resource management software solutions for research and funding organizations. Their software helps research organizations to advertise and showcase their human talent, IP and patents, and facilities and equipment.
Starting from 2014, Kevin also co-founded A-Star Labs and served as the Head of Research. A-Star Labs specializes in developing web and mobile technology solutions, providing technical consulting, design work, and full software solution development.
Kevin's earlier experience includes working as a Research Fellow at University College Dublin, where they were involved in research, teaching, supervision, and lead project management on Academic-Industry collaboration projects. Kevin was also a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the same institution, and earlier, they completed their PhD in the field of conversational recommender systems and personalization under the supervision of Prof. Barry Smyth.
Kevin also worked as a Software Engineer & Sys Admin at ChangingWorlds from 2001 to 2002.
Kevin McCarthy PhD completed their education at three different institutions. Kevin began their academic journey at St. Marys CBS Enniscorthy, although specific details about their degree and field of study were not provided. After that, they attended University College Dublin from 1998 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Computer Science. Continuing their studies in the same field, McCarthy pursued a PhD in Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin from 2003 to 2008, completing their doctoral studies successfully.
