Jason Hartford

Jason Hartford is an accomplished academic and machine learning expert currently serving as a Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Fellow at The University of Manchester and a Staff Machine Learning Scientist at Valence Labs, where leadership of the Exploration & Extrapolation unit emphasizes causal representation learning and active learning. In addition to these roles, Jason is also a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Recursion, focusing on innovative approaches to enhance drug discovery. Previous positions include Postdoctoral Researcher at Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute and Graduate Student at The University of British Columbia, where Jason earned both a PhD and MSc in Computer Science. Educational credentials also include a Master of Commerce in Economic Science and a BSc Honours in Computer Science, all obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand, along with relevant diplomas and degrees in Statistics and Computer Science.
