Leis began their career at Siemens, where they held various roles in procurement and strategic sourcing. As the Director of Strategic Sourcing for Siemens Water Technologies from September 2004 to October 2012, Leis implemented a material category management process and was responsible for managing $213 million in materials spend for multiple business units globally. Shawn Leis ✦ also served as a Procurement Manager for Siemens Water Technologies from November 2001 to September 2004, overseeing procurement and equipment assembly for a fully outsourced capital equipment systems business.

Leis' early career included a role as a Buyer at GE Water & Process Technologies from September 1996 to November 2001. In this position, they were responsible for procuring major sub-contracting fabrications and electrical & instrumentation for project-based businesses. Leis implemented sourcing strategies and engaged in cross-functional collaboration to drive year-over-year savings and improve project profitability.
