Thys Visser

Thys Visser has a diverse range of work experience spanning multiple industries. Thys began their career as an Assistant Logistics Manager at the South African Police Service (SAPS) and later transitioned to the role of Senior IT Technician in the SAPS Provincial IT division. In this role, they were responsible for managing and modernizing the logistics office, streamlining internal procedures, and training personnel. Thys then worked as a software developer for Upfront Systems, where they developed specialized software frameworks for logistics management and agricultural reporting.

Thys started their own IT business, Vi-Computers, where they provided Sun Java software development services and IT support to clients in the wine, software development, and agricultural industries. Thys also specialized in Psion EPOC software development for logistics management.

After Vi-Computers, Thys joined ViSoft Symax as a Software Developer for a brief period before moving on to work as a Software Developer at Redstor. At Redstor, they gained expertise in cloud and data management through their role as a QA Test Analyst and expanded their QA knowledge in the industry. Thys then transitioned into the role of UX/UI Designer, where they collaborated with product management and engineering teams to implement innovative solutions and create user-friendly interfaces. Currently, Thys works as a UX Researcher at Redstor, conducting user research, improving product usability, and advocating research findings to various audiences.

Outside of their corporate roles, Thys is also a talented Commercial Photographer specializing in corporate, architecture, and travel/documentary photography, offering unique and tailored services based on clients' needs.

Thys Visser's education history is as follows:

Thys Visser obtained a degree in Matric from Stellenbosch High in 1988. Thys then pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Computer Science at Stellenbosch University from 1989 to 1991. Following this, they studied at UNISA and earned a National Higher Diploma (NHD) in Information Technology from 1991 to 1994.

Throughout their career, Thys Visser engaged in various certification programs and training courses. In 2003, they completed a Test Automation program at Test and Data Services. In 2004, they attended Ad Sparrius System Engineering (Pty) Ltd and focused on System Management, Software Engineering & Documentation. In 2007, they further enhanced their skills in Automation Testing by pursuing a Performance and Automation Testing program at AutoMyTest. In 2010, Thys Visser received training in Practical and Advanced SQL for Testers (Quality Assurance) from Test and Data Services. Thys also completed a Studio Lightning course at Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photography in 2011.

In 2012, Thys Visser attended the University of Cape Town and obtained an Advanced Photoshop CS certification from the GetSmarter program. Thys pursued another program at the same university in 2018, specializing in User Experience Design. Additionally, they participated in the Attix5 Technical Program offered by Attix5 in 2015, focusing on secure data protection, recovery, and storage with cloud-based solutions. That same year, they also completed a Reseller Salesman Program at Attix5.

Adding to their credentials, Thys Visser obtained multiple certifications. In 2020, they completed the "Improving Your Focus" course on LinkedIn. In 2021, they obtained several certifications, including "Getting Started in User Experience," "UX Design: 1 Overview," "UX Design: 2 Analyzing User Data," "UX Design: 3 Creating Personas," and "UX Design: 4 Ideation." Additionally, in 2022, they completed courses on UX DesignOps, including "UX DesignOps: Overview," "UX DesignOps: Working with Developers," "UX DesignOps: Managing Stakeholders," and "UX DesignOps: Measuring Success." In 2023, Thys Visser acquired expertise in UX research and mapping through the "UX Deep Dive" courses provided by LinkedIn. Thys also completed the "21st Century Design with Don Norman" course and obtained a Membership Certificate from The Interaction Design Foundation.
