John Loeser has extensive experience in education, currently serving as the Head of School at Redwood Day School since July 2011. In this role, John leads a K-8 independent school in Oakland, California, overseeing program and curriculum development, faculty and staff professional growth, school finances, governance, fundraising, enrollment, marketing, and communications for 385 students. Prior to this position, John was the Assistant Head of School and Director of Studies at The Carey School, where responsibilities included curriculum oversight, program enhancement, and participation in Board committees focused on sustainability and diversity. Previously, John taught fifth grade at Chenery Middle School and served as Academic Dean and Mathematics Instructor at the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University. John holds a Master’s Degree in School Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Psychology from Swarthmore College.
