John R. Peñuelas, Jr. has an extensive work history in the transportation and engineering field. John started their career in 1983 as a Survey Technician at the Nevada Department of Transportation. John then worked for Clark County from 1993 to 2004, where they held positions as a Traffic Technician and an Associate Engineer. In 2004, they joined the City of Henderson as a Project Engineer II and later became the City Traffic Engineer in 2005. Since 2015, John has been employed by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, initially serving as an Engineering Manager before being promoted to Director of Engineering Services - Streets and Highways. In 2019, they took on the role of Senior Director of Engineering before returning to their position as Director of Engineering Services - Streets and Highways in 2022.
John R. Peñuelas, Jr. completed their education in a variety of fields. In 1979, they attended Boulder City High School. After graduating, they went on to the University of Arizona from 1985 to 1989, where they focused on Engineering Physics/Applied Physics. Following this, from 1997 to 1999, John attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, majoring in Civil Engineering. In 2015, they returned to the University of Arizona and obtained a Bachelor of General Studies, with an emphasis in Science, Technology, Health and Society. Additionally, in June 2004, they obtained a Professional Engineer certification from the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
