Liz Puhl has a diverse range of work experience in the field of cartography, spatial data science, and software development. Liz started their career as a Mapping Intern at the St. Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development in 1993, where they designed maps and analyzed data. Liz then worked as a GIS Technician at Vista Information Solutions, where they digitized fire districts and stations. Liz later joined Syracuse University Department of Geography as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant, where they instructed students in cartographic design and conducted research on the history of cartography.
Moving forward, Liz joined Protonic as a Cartographer and was responsible for designing maps and coordinating production for real estate investment portfolios. Liz then joined John Wiley and Sons as a Cartographer, where they created and updated maps for travel guides, collaborating with authors and editors remotely. Liz gained software development skills by attending Prime Digital Academy as a Full Stack Software Engineering Student in 2016. During this program, they learned the fundamentals of software development, specifically focusing on the MEAN stack.
Following that, Liz worked at North Point Geographic Solutions as a GIS Web Application Developer, where they developed front-end logic for web applications using various programming languages and frameworks. Liz also implemented UI designs and used the ArcGIS API for JavaScript.
In 2021, Liz started working at Regrid as a Spatial Data Scientist, where they are currently employed. Prior to that, they worked at the same company as a Parcel Prospector for a brief period. Additionally, Liz has experience working as a self-employed Cartographer, creating basemaps, race course maps, and travel guidebook maps.

Liz Puhl completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Geography at Macalester College in 1993. Liz then pursued their Master of Arts (MA) in Geography at Syracuse University - Maxwell School, which they completed in 2004. In 2016, they attended Prime Digital Academy to study Computer Software Engineering. Recently, in 2020, Liz obtained an Advanced GIS Capstone Certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
