Edel O'Connell has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2003, they started their career as a General Reporter for Kingdom Newspaper. From 2006 to 2010, they worked as a Health Editor for Evening Echo newspaper. Moving forward, they worked as a Ghost Writer for Gill&Mcmillan in 2010. In the same year, they also joined the Irish Independent as a News Reporter. In 2013, they became a Senior Account Director at Fuzion Communications, where they managed PR strategies and handled crisis PR. From 2014 to 2016, they served as the Communications Manager for Alzheimer's Society, responsible for developing and coordinating media, public relations, marketing, and web functions. In 2014, Edel also started their role as the Editor in Chief for TrustElevate.com, a consultancy conducting research in the technology sector. Edel then took on the role of Content Editor/Communications Manager at TrustElevate.com in 2015. Most recently, in 2016, they became the Head of Communications and Marketing for Rehab Group and later took on the additional responsibility of leading the Public Affairs and Fundraising Department.

Edel O'Connell obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English History from University College Cork in 1997. Following this, from 1997 to 1998, Edel pursued a Diploma in Journalism at the Editorial Centre London. Edel continued their education at University College Cork, earning a Masters (Hons) degree in English from 1994 to 2002.
