Chris Mercer has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Chris started their career in 1988 as AUXO, COMMO, and MPA at USS HARRY W HILL (DD 986). Chris then served as MPA at USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) from 1992 to 1994. In 1997, they became a Project Officer at SUPSHIP Portsmouth, PEO EXW, PMS 385. From 1999 to 2001, they worked as H,M&E Branch Head, Fleet Material Readiness at Commander in Chief, US Atlantic Fleet, N43. In 2001, they joined Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) as DD(X) IPS and Test Officer until 2005. Chris then became a Production Officer at PEO Ships, LPD 17, PMS 317 until 2007. From 2007 to 2010, they served as a Production, Test and Post Deliver Officer at PEO Ships, LCS Program, PMS 501. In 2010, they became a Program Manager for Amphibious Warfare Programs at PEO Ships, Amphibious Warfare Programs, PMS 377 until 2015. Chris subsequently became the Director of Rapid Prototyping and Experimentation at ASN (RDA), DASN (RDT&E) from 2015 to 2018. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Technical, Industrial and Rapid Prototyping Operations at Reliability & Performance Technologies (R&P) since 2018 and will be promoted to Senior Vice President of Technical and Industrial Operations in January 2023.
Chris Mercer completed their Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Maine Maritime Academy from 1984 to 1988. Chris then pursued further education at Naval Postgraduate School from 1994 to 1996, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Electrical Power Systems and Total Ship Systems Engineering.
