Ashton Jones

Planning And Landscape Architecture Department Head at Remington & Vernick Engineers, Inc.

Ashton Jones has a diverse range of work experience in the field of planning and landscape architecture. They have held various roles at different companies, starting in 2006. Ashton started as an Assistant Planner at the City of Grants Pass, where they reviewed building permits and wrote staff reports. They then moved on to work as an Intern at Montgomery County, PA, where they focused on creating visual aids for a greening ordinance and conducting research on storm water retention and alternative parking lot design.

In 2008, Ashton joined CHPlanning, Ltd as an Assistant Planner, working on a variety of planning projects and assisting with public outreach efforts. They also gained experience in project management and proposal efforts. Ashton continued their career at Portland State University as a Graduate Research Assistant, researching community business models and their organizational structures.

Returning to CHPlanning, Ltd in 2008, Ashton held the role of Associate Planner, drafting reports on master planning, transportation planning, and urban design. They also assisted with GIS data manipulation and mapping, statistical analysis, and 3D modeling. Ashton then interned at The Reinvestment Fund, where they contributed to policy research and data management.

In 2013, Ashton became a Planner II at the City of Norfolk, coordinating with multiple city departments, reviewing projects for zoning compliance, and facilitating communication between the development community and the city. They also addressed various planning issues, such as floodplain management and hazard mitigation. During this time, they also worked as an Intern at The Reinvestment Fund's PolicyMap division.

Ashton's career then took them to Clarke Caton Hintz, where they reviewed development applications and drafted long-range planning reports for municipal clients. They were involved in GIS mapping, land use analysis, and hazard mitigation planning. After that, Ashton joined CHPlanning Ltd in Philadelphia as a Planner II, focusing on drafting reports on comprehensive planning, recreation planning, and revitalization and redevelopment planning. They also contributed to public outreach efforts and performed GIS analysis.

In 2022, Ashton worked as a Township Planner at Upper Merion Township, before joining Remington & Vernick Engineers in 2023 as the Planning and Landscape Architecture Department Head. In this role, they supervise planning staff, draft planning reports, and represent municipal boards throughout New Jersey. They also work on various private client projects and perform GIS mapping and data manipulation.

Throughout their career, Ashton has gained experience in a wide range of planning tasks, including drafting reports, conducting research, performing GIS analysis, and facilitating public outreach efforts. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University, from 2007 to 2009. In 2012, Ashton earned the professional certification AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners). In the same year, they also completed coursework in Real Estate Development, Finance, and Urban Studies at Portland State University. Ashton further enhanced their qualifications by acquiring the CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager) certification from The Association of State Floodplain Managers in March 2015. Lastly, in May 2016, they achieved the Professional Planner certification from the State of New Jersey. These certifications demonstrate Ashton's commitment to continued professional development and expertise in urban planning and related fields.
