Bruce Lutes

VP, Biodiesel Operations at Renewable Energy Group

Bruce Lutes has been in the renewable fuels industry for 14 years, starting as Plant Manager of the REG Danville plant in 2008. He became General Manager for REG Danville & REG Newton in 2011 and in 2014 assumed responsibility for the REG Seneca Plant. Mr. Lutes was on the acquisition team for the REG Madison plant and was General Manager for that plant after the acquisition in 2016. In 2020, he assumed responsibility for REG Albert Lea and REG Mason City. He currently serves as Vice President of Biodiesel Operations. In this role, Mr. Lutes is responsible for the eight biodiesel plants in North America and well as the biodiesel operations in Germany, ensuring efficient safety, quality and productivity processes, and always seeking continuous improvement, including monthly metrics meetings to evaluate current performance. In addition, he is responsible for ensuring the profitability of the plants and managing capital projects.

Prior to coming to REG, Mr. Lutes served in several different manufacturing management roles in purchasing, logistics, quality and manufacturing including the Director of Supply Chain at ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft Company. As Plant Manager of both the ThyssenKrupp Veedersburg Forge Plant and the Fostoria Machining Plant, the plants improved productivity, scrap and on time delivery by utilizing Six Sigma, and initiating Key Metrics and 5S.

Mr. Lutes has been an active advocate for REG as he has testified to the EPA for the Renewable Volume Obligations and has supported the National Biodiesel Board in several different meetings and Legislative tours. In his community, he is the President of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Danville, as well as a member of the Vermillion Advantage Board of Directors.
