Richard Doherty

Business Development Director (emea) at Renewable Energy Systems

Richard Doherty has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Richard started their career as an intern at the Mountbatten Internship Programme from 2004 to 2005. Richard then worked as a Conference Manager at Incisive Media from 2008 to 2010, where they managed conferences for their website.

In 2010, Richard joined Worldwide Business Research as a Senior Conference Manager, specializing in managing conferences in Asia. Richard worked there until 2012.

From 2012 to 2018, Richard worked at Senvion UK as a Business Development Manager, responsible for developing the business in the UK. Richard then moved to Senvion as a Senior Account Manager in 2018, a position they held until 2019.

In 2019, Richard joined RES as a Business Development Director. Richard initially served as the Business Development Director and member of the UK & Ireland's executive management team. In this role, they led an origination team focused on providing support to various parts of the business. Richard then transitioned to the role of Business Development Director (EMEA) in 2021, reporting directly to the CEO. In this newly created role, they are responsible for leading organic business development activities across EMEA, with a focus on asset management, operations and maintenance, and other services provided by RES internationally. Their responsibilities cover RES's key technologies of onshore wind, offshore wind, solar, and battery storage.

Richard Doherty's education history includes a series of qualifications and degrees obtained over the years. Richard pursued their LL.B degree in Law at the University of Glasgow from 1999 to 2003. Following this, in 2004-2005, they completed an International Business Diploma from Cambridge International Examinations. Lastly, from 2011 to 2012, Richard attended the University of Edinburgh Business School, where they obtained an MSc in Carbon Finance, focusing on areas such as renewables, climate change, and carbon trading.
