John Dardis

Principal Laser Scientist (principal Design/development Engineer) at Renishaw

John Dardis has extensive work experience in the field of laser technology and engineering. John began their career as an Assistant Telecommunications Engineer at Siemens Enterprise Communications in 1998 and later worked as a Sales Assistant at Dixons Stores Group and Brown Thomas. In 2003, they took on the role of Process Engineer at Analog Devices, where they monitored production recipes and conducted tests on ion-implanters. In 2004, they joined Dublin City University as a PhD Researcher and Teaching Assistant, focusing on the interaction of lasers with atoms and solids. During this time, they also served as a member of the local organizing committee for an atomic physics conference. John then worked as a Beamline Scientist at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in 2009, assisting with the commissioning of a new laser facility. From 2010 to 2011, they were a Laser Systems Engineer at Coherent, where they assembled and optimized laser systems. Since 2011, they have held various roles at Renishaw, starting as a Laser Scientist and progressing to Senior Laser Scientist and Principal Laser Scientist. In these roles, they led technical teams and invented tools and systems for laser calibration and monitoring in additive manufacturing.

John Dardis earned a B.Sc. in Physics from Dublin City University in 2004. John then pursued a Ph.D. in Physics from the same university, completing it in 2009.
