James Oswald

James Oswald is currently a Research Intern at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, engaging with the Integrated Cognitive Systems Section at the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence since June 2025. Concurrently, Oswald serves as a Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Guest Lecturer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, focusing on the integration of automated reasoning into cognitive architectures. Previous experience includes a Research Internship at IBM in 2023, where research on large language models for automated planning was conducted, resulting in publications in prestigious AI venues such as AAAI and ICAPS. Earlier roles include a Research Internship at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and a Research Aide position at The Research Foundation for SUNY, contributing to significant findings in intelligent nanomaterial design. Academically, Oswald is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, having previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University at Albany.
