Dr. Atsusi Hirumi is an Associate Professor of Instructional Design and Technology at the University of Central Florida. For the past 20 years, Dr. Hirumi has centered his teaching, research, and service on the design of online and hybrid learning environments. Leading efforts to transform entire certificate and master’s degree programs, he has worked with colleges, K-12 schools, medical centers, and the military across North and South America, and the Middle East to establish online and hybrid training and educational programs.
Dr. Hirumi currently focuses on applying cognitive neuroscience research on human emotions and imagination to enhance experiential learning. He is now working with UCF’s College of Medicine, and UGA’s and UF’s Colleges of Engineering to design virtual patient simulations. Dr. Hirumi has published over 30 refereed articles, and 16 book chapters, edited 4 books and has made over 100 presentations at international conferences, including invited keynote speeches in the US, Canada, Brazil, Iran, and Mexico in the past year. His awards include the Army Training Maverick Award for leadership in distance learning, the Texas Distance Learning Association Award for commitment to excellence and innovation, the WebCT Exemplary Online Course Award, the UHCL Star Faculty Award, and the Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding Practitioner Award, the ENRON Award for Innovation.
Dr. Hirumi works with RePubIT as a strategic advisor and as a project-based consultant of cognitive neuroscience and instructional design.
