Maria da Graça Carvalho

Maria Da Graça Carvalho currently serves as the Minister for Environment and Energy in the XXIV Governo of República Portuguesa since April 2024. Carvalho has held the position of Chair of the Board of Directors at Instituto Francisco Sá Carneiro since July 2020 and has been an advisor in the SAM Science Advice Mechanism Unit at the European Commission since May 2014. As a Member of the European Parliament from July 2019 to April 2024, Carvalho was actively involved in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee and the Fisheries Committee, holding leadership roles in both. Previously, Carvalho served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to April 2014 and was a Full Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Technical University of Lisbon Instituto Superior Tecnico from 1992 to 2003. Education credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Energy from Imperial College London, earned between 1979 and 1983.
