Zara Schroeder is an accomplished researcher and communications professional with extensive experience in responsible AI, gender equality, and community mobilization. Currently, Zara serves as a Researcher at Research ICT Africa and has held positions as a Research and Coordination Officer for the Global Index On Responsible AI and Research Coordinator at the African Observatory on Responsible AI. Previously, Zara worked as Responsible AI Lead at the Equiano Institute and played a vital role in resource mobilization for underprivileged communities at the Anwar Jakoet Foundation. With a strong background in educational curriculum development and social media coordination, Zara has also contributed as an Academic Tutor at Stellenbosch University. Zara holds a Master’s degree in Public Sociology and Anthropology, an Honours Degree in Sociology and Anthropology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Stellenbosch University.

Research ICT Africa (RIA) conducts public-interest research on the digital economy and society that responds to national, regional and continental needs. It provides relevant stakeholders with the information and analysis required to develop flexible and adaptive policies and regulation to dealwith an increasingly complex and dynamic digital environment. The network will contribute to the gathering and analysis of data and indicators to establish a repository of knowledge for furthering research and digital governance.
