Celia Diaz Nicieza

Research Associate - Macrophage Biology at Resolution Therapeutics

Celia Diaz Nicieza has a diverse range of work experience in the field of biomedical research. Celia is currently working as a Research Associate - Macrophage Biology at Resolution Therapeutics since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Imperial College London where they completed a Wellcome Trust funded PhD from 2019 to 2022, specialized in a Wellcome Trust PhD Programme MRes Year from 2018 to 2019.

Celia also gained valuable experience as a Summer Intern at the University of Glasgow in 2018, where they contributed to a study on tracking trypanosomes in vivo using acoustic reporter genes. Celia conducted various laboratory techniques including bacterial transformation and screening, agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction enzyme digestion, and trypanosome in vitro culture.

Before that, they worked as an Investigative Honours Project researcher at the University of Glasgow in 2017, focusing on evaluating antimicrobial resistance and biofilm formation of MRSA isolates from companion animals in Scotland. Their work on this project was presented at the SULSA Antimicrobial Resistance Conference in Glasgow. Celia utilized techniques such as bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, and in vitro biofilm studies.

Additionally, they gained experience as a Summer Project participant at the University of Glasgow in 2017 through the Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarship. Celia assisted Dr. Annette's team with their research on trypanosomes in the skin, particularly focusing on Human African Trypanosomiasis and the role of asymptomatic individuals as reservoirs of infection.

Overall, Celia Diaz Nicieza has acquired a strong foundation in biomedical research through their various roles and experiences in different institutions.

Celia Diaz Nicieza completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Microbiology at the University of Glasgow from 2014 to 2018. In 2018, they obtained a certification in Stem ambassador training from STEM Ambassadors. From 2018 to 2019, Celia pursued their Wellcome Trust MRes in Molecular and Cellular Basis of Infection at Imperial College London. Currently, they are working towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Immunology at Imperial College London, which they started in 2019 and is expected to complete in 2022.
