Kathleen Newsome

Kathleen Newsome is the Director at Resourceful Nonprofit. Kathleen has extensive experience in project management, mediation, and community organizing.

Newsome began their career as a Graduate Intern at First Year Cleveland, where they worked on a public health initiative targeting sleep-related infant death. Kathleen was quickly promoted to Mediation Specialist at the Cleveland Municipal Court, where they helped resolve disputes between parties.

In 2016, Newsome became a Community Innovation Network Consultant at the Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development. In this role, they worked with community members to develop innovative solutions to poverty and inequality. Kathleen also interned at Organize! Ohio, where they helped develop community organizing strategies.

In 2018, Newsome was hired as the Project Manager for First Year Cleveland Safe Sleep Heroes. In this role, they oversaw the training of 18,000 safe sleep ambassadors and coordinated events and marketing efforts. Kathleen also helped develop a strategy for confronting implicit bias and systemic racism in infant mortality and pregnancy outcomes. To date, they have helped create more than 8 million gross media impressions.

Kathleen Newsome received their Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at CWRU. Kathleen also holds a BA in Human Services from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. Her undergraduate studies were in English, Communications, and Political Science from John Carroll University.
