James Cook

Research Fellow & Scientific Advisor at RespireRx Phamaceuticals

Dr. James Cook has served at RespireRx, since October 2020, as Research Fellow and Scientific Advisor. Dr. Cook is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he has been on the faculty since 1973. For his achievements, he has received The UW-System Innovator Award, as well as The UW-Milwaukee Innovator Award. He has published over 500 papers as well as filed over 90 patents, many of which have been issued and have served as the foundation for the founding of various companies in fields as diverse as neurology, psychiatry, pain, asthma and cancer. It was his synthetic chemistry and pharmacology research conducted with Dr. Jeffrey Witkin and Dr. Rok Cerne that identified the compounds that RespireRx has in-licensed for its GABA receptor neuromodulator program.
