Prior to that, they were the Visual Brand & Product Design Manager at Trisept Solutions from 2013 to 2019. From 2010 to 2013, they were a Designer - Brand & Content at Zywave. Before that, they were a Copywriter at Zizzo Group Marketing + PR + New Media from 2009 to 2010.

Michael Kempen attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Advertising.
