Lawrence Mattis gave up his career as an attorney to become the founder of Circle of Confusion, a management company representing writers and directors in the film industry. Mattis has overseen Circle’s growth from a small literary boutique into a full-service, bi-coastal production/management company, creating cutting-edge film and television, and representing writers, directors, actors, content creators, and intellectual property.
Lawrence manages clients such as the Wachowskis (The Matrix, Sense8), Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli, Star Wars: Rogue One), and Jon Spaihts (Passengers, Dr. Strange). In television, Circle of Confusion currently produces The Walking Dead, the most watched drama series in basic cable history, Fear The Walking Dead, and the Talking Dead, and recently launched Circle of Confusion Television Studios in partnership with ITV. Circle’s film productions include American Ultra, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, Mr. Right, starring Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick, and the recently completed Rim of the World, directed by McG for Netflix.
Mattis received his JD from Columbia University. Despite the fact that he has been told the film business is based in Los Angeles, he works and lives in New York City with his wife, Frances, and his daughter, who is diagnosed with Rett syndrome.
