John Jeffers

He began his career at Mobil Oil in the late 1980s and embarked on a 32-year career in hydrocarbon exploration and production and energy technology with Mobil, Schlumberger and Southwestern Energy. His work has taken him to every continent, where he has been involved in a wide array of projects and partnerships, each with unique technical, operational and commercial challenges. Since leaving his last corporate role in early 2020, he has been focused on advising start-ups, mentoring entrepreneurs, and investing in early-stage growth companies.

In addition to his role with RTT, John currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Innovation at the University of Houston College of Technology, as a mentor and subject matter expert with Global Energy Mentors. and is an active participant in several angel investing groups. He is a member of numerous professional associations and societies, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship. John earned his bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College and earned a Masters in Geology from Rice, where he was awarded the Leroy Caleb Gibbon prize for his graduate thesis research in Antarctica. He later completed Executive Education at SMU’s Cox School of Business.
