Alex Shapland Howes has a diverse range of work experience. Alex is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of RideTandem, a company focused on improving mobility in towns and rural areas. Alex has also served as a Non-Executive Director for The Skills Builder Partnership and as a School Governor for Stratford School Academy. Alex has a background in social impact and leadership, having worked as a Freelancer for Social Impact | Leadership. Alex has also held leadership positions in various organizations, including being the Director of Operations (Interim) for Place2Be and the Managing Director of Future First, where they played a key role in growing the organization and developing its strategy. Additionally, they have experience in the education sector as the Head of Mathematics at The Petchey Academy and as a Teacher and Head of Student Learning at London Academy. Alex has also served as a Trustee for Teach First.

Alex Shapland Howes attended Verulam School from 1997 to 2004, where they completed their secondary education. Alex then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Warwick from 2004 to 2007. In 2016, they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, specializing in Social Entrepreneurship as a recipient of the Skoll Scholarship.
